Happy Donate Life Month! ❤️ #ad⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ D Happy Donate Life Month! ❤️ #ad⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Did you know more than 10,000 Texans are waiting for a lifesaving transplant? This #DonateLifeMonth, join me in becoming a registered #OrganDonor to help save lives.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Are you a registered organ donor? For #DonateLifeMonth, I’m partnering with @SWTransplant to share the impact donation has on our community. ONE donor can save up to EIGHT lives! That’s EIGHT PEOPLE hoping upon hope to live another day! Being an organ donor is more than just checking a box – it’s saving lives!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Did you know communities of color have a disproportionate need for organ transplants but actually represent a smaller percentage of registered donors?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ There are currently more than 10,000 Texans waiting to receive a lifesaving organ donation. One organ donor can save the lives of eight people and improve the lives of 75 others, yes! African Americans and Latinos within STA’s 89-county service area in Texas experience a disproportionate need for organ and tissue transplants. 67% of those on the waiting list in Texas are African American or Latino. Kidney failure is 5 times more common for African Americans than their white counterparts. Latinos are almost twice as likely to have diabetes than white individuals.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Curious how to sign up? Registering your decision takes less than 10 minutes and can be done online. Visit DonateLifeTexas.org or you can also say “Yes” to donation when renewing your driver’s license at your Texas DPS office or record your decision on your iPhone Health App. An important reminder: don’t forget to tell your friends and family about your decision and why you want to give the give the gift of life – you may inspire them to register, too!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Also - Dispel those myths! Race, income or social status NEVER play a factor in the allocation of donated tissue or organs. Anyone – regardless of age or health status – can register to be a donor. Being a registered donor NEVER impacts how you are cared for by medical personnel. Most major U.S. religions support donation as an act of love and generosity.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Sign up at organ.org/register.⁣ ⁣ If you have any questions, please let me know! I worked in transplant for years 🫁🫀
It’s National Gardening Day! 🌸 ⁣ ⁣ Step i It’s National Gardening Day! 🌸 ⁣ ⁣ Step into my garden 🪴 ⁣ ⁣ Okay so this was inspired by Daisy Head Mazie but in all actuality it reminds me of five things:⁣ ⁣ 🌷 flowers cannot grow without sunshine ⁣ 🌷 flowers grow in the dirt ⁣ 🌷 even crushed flowers provide fragrance⁣ 🌷 nothing blooms all year ⁣ 🌷 when a flower blooms, the bees come uninvited 🐝 ⁣ ⁣ While flowers are relatively simple and humans are complex, so many lessons can be applied from the life of a plant. ⁣ ⁣ Find whatever lights you up and let if fill you with purpose and strength. It might take mucking around in the dirt, in situations that are unpleasant in order to find growth. A little dirt don’t hurt and it’s always possible to rise from it, perhaps even be enriched (hopefully no 🪱😂). ⁣ ⁣ I really liked the crushed flower analogy because dang, life can trample the shit out of you without warning or welcome. We repair ourselves or find a way to persevere. Maybe we’re crushed and need to see the fragrance as a new path from the brokenness. ⁣ ⁣ We don’t bloom all year. It’s okay to not be at your best 24/7 or be resilient or the star that constantly shines. We all have down moments. We all need reprieve and the opportunity to just chill without needing to put on the face that we’re okay or living our best lives. We all need moments to break down, feel the feelings and just BREATHE without worrying about judgement or opinions or letting down the expectations of others. ⁣ ⁣ I especially love this - the bees come uninvited! Not everyone knows how to accept your moments of success and triumph. People can be unsupportive, critical, and jealous. Take note of those people, recognize the poison and break out the ✂️ ⁣ ⁣ Above all, be a freaking flower amongst the pesky weeds and embrace YOU. Bloom wherever you’re planted or perhaps where the wind carries you. Be your own type of flower. I surround myself with 🌸 and ☀️ and I wish the same for you 💋

Did you know April is Stress Awareness Month ? 🤯😵⁣ ⁣ Despite knowing how busy our lives are or what we having going on day to day we don’t often pause to consider what that stress is doing to us internally. ⁣ ⁣ We all run run run each and every day toiling with the schedules that loom over us. Job stress, financial stress, stress within your family or friendship circles, future unknowns that plague our thoughts - it all adds up. ⁣ ⁣ I start getting grouchy and short-fused. My migraines start to resurface. My neck and shoulders get achy with knots and tension. I don’t sleep as well because I’m awake running through a constant hamster wheel of what if’s and escalating scenarios. Who can relate? ⁣ ⁣ We were lucky enough to escape this week on our first vacation together in three years. I didn’t realize just how much I needed an opportunity to just BE. I had so much pent up anxiety and stress from constantly being in motion and fretting over the future. I know we ALL can relate. ⁣ ⁣ It was so therapeutic to be able to step out of that glass case we seem to trap ourselves in and shut down my brain. I feel incredibly grateful to be vaccinated and travel without the added fear of getting sick. I NEEDED to step out of the box, and I hope you get an opportunity to do the same. 💕
March 26 is Wear Purple Day in support of epilepsy March 26 is Wear Purple Day in support of epilepsy awareness 💜 🧠 ⚡️ ⁣ ⁣ Seizures can be big or small or seemingly gazing off into the distance. They result from bursts of electrical signals misfiring within the brain. Lots of things lower the “seizure threshold” but sometimes it’s out of our control entirely. ⁣ ⁣ It’s been nearly two years that I’ve lived with this and let me tell you... it blows. If you know anyone or you yourself suffer from seizures you KNOW how debilitating they are and how much they creep into day to day life. ⁣ ⁣ Now more than ever I’m super anxious ALL the time. I worry about driving and hurting someone else for something out of my control. I never drive with cruise control on anymore. I worry about something happening in public and no one knowing what to do or who to call. I don’t take baths anymore - unless Charlie is home and knows to check on me. I worry about having one in my sleep and not waking up. I worry about long term memory disorders like Alzheimer’s or dementia. ⁣ ⁣ All these things seem so small but they’re huge. Who knew you could take a bath for granted? ⁣ ⁣ I take medication but because the source of my seizures is an anatomical abnormality there isn’t a whole lot we can change and medications don’t “fix” the problem. I’m grateful for medications that help, but they aren’t free of side effects. My memory, coordination, energy and word recall has totally changed .. but you take the good with the bad. ⁣ ⁣ For those of who you know this world, sending a big big hug to you 💜 #epilepsyawareness #epilepsyday #wearpurpleday #wearpurpleforepilepsy
Feet on the ground, ready to leap. Head toward the Feet on the ground, ready to leap. Head toward the skies, looking forward to dreams. Heart open, ready to fly ☁️ ⁣ ⁣ I LOVE this photo so much because it’s all about perspective. Am I falling? Am I daring to leap? Am I holding myself back or am I saving myself? Am I pushing myself over the ridge or am I urging myself to explore the unknown? Am I wistful or am I hopeful? ⁣ ⁣ Today I find myself in a much more peaceful mindset than I was the other week. Disappointments are sinking in the moment but the future shines so much brighter. ⁣ ⁣ Last week I finished my required clinical hours for the spring - I’ve been busting my ass to finish them in case anything unexpected happens like last year. Everything I do now counts towards my summer requirements and then I’m FINISHED with my second nurse practitioner specialty!! ⁣ ⁣ I also found out on Friday that I’ve officially been accepted in a doctorate program at my alma mater, Loyola University. I finished half of my DNP before putting it on pause to pursue my nurse practitioner degrees. Now, I can finish what I started towards my ultimate educational goal. ⁣ ⁣ My grandfather, God rest his soul, always said I should be a doctor. Little did he know I would do it my own way 😄 ⁣ ⁣ The work isn’t done, but I’m so excited for the future. I’m super SUPER proud of myself. ⁣ ⁣ Keep your head in the skies and dream those dreams bebes ✨⁣
